Last-Minute Gift Ideas for Kids: Awesome Games

We play a lot of board games in our house.  It’s something interactive that we can do with the kids and it beats the heck out of sitting around and watching television.  As a result, we have quite the collection of board games and I thought I’d share some of our kids’ favorite ones right now (in no particular order) in case any of you were searching for last-minute gifts for the kids.

For the most part, these are all games that my kids can both play.  On nearly all of them, our 3-year old daughter needs some help.  But, for the most part, she gets what she is doing and enjoys doing it.

I’m simply heartbroken….

Life’s Too Short

Last week, my hubby and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary.  Yippee!

We went out over the weekend to celebrate.  We had a lovely dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in our old neighborhood and then hit a new wine bar for some dessert and libations.  It was low-key and lovely.  Just the way we like it.

Last week, I took my son to his piano lesson and waited for him in the little waiting area.  A married couple came in while I was there waiting.  They looked worn down and tired and like life had gotten the best of them.  They had clearly been fighting on their way to their daughter’s piano lesson and decided that it was perfectly appropriate to continue their  argument right there in the waiting room.  They were trying to talk quietly, but not quiet enough.  All of us in the waiting room could hear everything that they were saying.  And it was just awful.  They clearly detested each other.  The things they were saying were just horrendous and spiteful and mean.

We also recently ran across a lady who has been married awhile and has a kid in high school.  This person was completely unapologetic about the fact that she had stayed married for the “sake of their child” (whatever that means!) and that as soon as her kid was off to college, she and her husband were planning to go their separate ways.  Just like that. No bones about it.

As my husband and I were out at dinner over the weekend, we talked about how grateful we are that we actually and genuinely like each other.  We have our good days and, by golly, we have our bad days.  But we never ever ever want to be that couple in the waiting room saying horrible and ugly things to each other or the couple counting the days until our kids are off to college so that we can cut our losses and move out and on.

Because life’s too short to be married to someone who doesn’t make you happy.

And, thankfully, my hubby still makes me happy – even after 9 years of marriage.

Happy anniversary, honey.  Here’s to 9 more. And 9 more.  And 9 more.  And 9 more…
