Lift Off

This was the view outside of my office building yesterday morning as the Space Shuttle Discovery flew around town on its way to the National Air and Space Museum.  It seemed so small on the back of that Boeing 747, but the size of the fighter jet escorting it definitely put it all into perspective.

It was sort of like the whole town stood still, got up from their desks and stepped away from their computers, and went outside to just watch it fly by.  The crowd cheered and clapped.  It reminded me that, even amongst all the bitterness and the divisiveness and the fear and the selfishness that marks this town sometimes, people (even the most self-important people) can still be simply inspired.
