Oh, That’s What Those Are For

Yesterday, my daughter opened the car door all by herself.  From inside. While we were driving down the road.

YIKES!

Everyone was fine.  We were going slow through a neighborhood at the time and she was, of course, properly restrained in her carseat.  I was able to pull over rather quickly, without incident, and shut the door.

I guess that’s why they make these fancy child locks.  To avoid these very situations.

Honestly, before now, I hated these child locks.  The only thing they seemed good for was trapping well-meaning adults into the backseat of cars.  The ones on my husband’s car have been activated for years now and I don’t know how many times one of our friends or family members have been locked in back there.  Kinda held against their will and all.  Uh, Hilary, the door won’t open.

Needless to say, however, I will be engaging the child lock on my daughter’s side of my car pronto.  Because I suppose it’s worth some periodic annoyance to avoid losing my daughter in some sort of open door/moving car mishap down the line (er, road).

Now, the window lock button is a whole other story.  I’m a huge fan.  A love affair of sorts.  I’d like to kiss whoever invented it.  Anything to prevent my kids from rolling the windows down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up….
